What is MAEAP?

MAEAP is The Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program.  MAEAP is a voluntary program administered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) that helps farms of all sizes and all commodities voluntarily prevent or minimize certain types of agricultural pollution risks.

MAEAP is not an organic farm program.   MAEAP certification has been used to demonstrate GAAMP compliance in at least one court case.  It should be noted that requirements for MAEAP certification are in some cases different than or higher than for Right to Farm Act protection under the Right to Farm Act/GAAMPs, also administered by MDARD.
